The Main Menu

1. Introduction

When you first run the RSS Advantage Newsticker the software connects to the Internet immediately to download the latest news from all the web site RSS feeds that you are subscribed to. As the screen shot below demonstrates:

After the inital load RSS Advantage connects to the Internet regularly every hour to get the latest updates from each of the RSS feeds that you are subscribed to.

2. Tickerbar Options

a. Previewing your news items from the tickerbar.

Once the tickerbar starts scrolling your news headlines (RSS feed titles) you can preview the news item by clicking on the headline. A small sizeable descripton window pops up with a description of the news item. Click here for a short screen capture video demonstration.
Note: the window will appear above the tickerbar if your Newsticker Position is set to Bottom or below the tickerbar if set to Top.

b. Scanning your news (NewsMaster Edition)

The NewsMaster Edition of the RSS Advantage has a Channel Controller option that provides the following additional features from the tickerbar:

  1. Fast Forward - Scrolls the news ticker forward
  2. Rewind - Rewinds the news ticker
  3. Switch Channel Up - Moves the ticker one news channel forward (to the next news feed).
  4. Switch Channel Down - Moves the ticker one news channel backward (to the previous news feed).

c. Adding New Newsfeeds - The Quick & Easy Way

TIP: Before you get into the details of newsfeed management, here are two shortcuts to adding new newsfeeds without going to the Newsfeed Management menu.

  1. The simplest is to drag and drop the RSS feed onto the ticker bar.
  2. You can also copy the URL of the feed and then Right-Click on the tickerbar and then click on the "Paste New Newsfeed" option.

In both cases a little pop-up window will appear to allow you to give the news feed a Name and Abbreviation. You can use up to 10 characters for the Abbreviation. The abbreviation is the "short name" that appears between the square brackets "[ABBR]" before each item in the news feed.

d. Accessing the Main Menu

To access the news ticker's main menu move your mouse icon over the newsticker area and Right-Click once in the orange area. The following menu will then appear:

You have the following options to choose from:

  1. View Item - When you Click on this option while the mouse pointer is over a news item the newsticker opens up the web page in your default web browser so that you can read the entire article.
     
  2. Pause / Resume Scrolling - As the name implies the news ticker stops or restarts scrolling the current  news items
     
  3. Paste New Newsfeed - You can use this option to manually paste a new newsfeed (RSS feed) into your collection of news. See Adding News  .
     
  4. Newsfeed Management - The main area for organizing and managing your news feeds.
     
  5. My Display Preferences - Use this menu option to set your news ticker speed and display preferences.
     
  6. Newsticker Position - Depending on your preference you can set up the news ticker to display either at the top of the screen or at the bottom of the screen.
     
  7. Help - Use this option to access the application's help features, submit feedback and upgrade to the NewsMaster edition.
     
  8. Exit - Last, but not least, this is the option to exit the RSS Advantage Newsticker.
